Jackson Healey Schow was born at 7:06am on Friday, January 22nd 2010. Weighing in at a whopping 7lbs 3 ounces and measuring 18 inches long, he is definitely our chunkiest and shortest little monkey!
We were a planned c-section, although Paul and I were for sure we wouldn't make it to that date. But despite our greatest efforts this little man was determined to stick to the schedule! We were told that on Thursday the day before we would be receiving a call from the hospital to let us know what time we had to be there. THURSDAY WAS AN AGONIZING DAY! It seemed to drag on and on. Nannie and Beth came over to visit and while they were there, I had forgotten about the phone call. Mid way through the visit I said to Paul that he might want to go upstairs and get the phone, and sure enough we had missed the call! Luckily only by a few minutes, and they knew exactly who I was before I told them. The nurse told us that we needed to be at the hospital by 5:15am, no eating and drinking after 10pm and to bring some movies (which meant we were going to be sitting for a while) The clock seemed to take forever to change numbers, but finally it was time for Samuel to do some home work, which was a nice distraction,. After homework we put all the kids to bed, and laid there trying to sleep. Finally I think I passed out at around 12am, I woke up to use the restroom and when I came back to bed and noticed the clock. IT WAS ONLY 1:30!! I felt as if I had been asleep for hours. So after a brief "You've got to be kidding me!" fit, I laid back down and went to sleep. Waking up late from our Alarm I jumped out of bed, got dressed, had a quick snuggle with the kiddo's and we were off!
As we were turning onto the road to the freeway, we suddenly had flashing lights behind us, yes we were being pulled over haha. Luckily the cop was just being nice, and told Paul that they were trying to mail something to us, but it kept getting sent back, so we have 90days to get it taken care of or else the trucks registration would be revoked.Yadda yadda.... Really nice of the guy, but at the same time... lol Not the best feeling in the world to be pulled over.

We arrived at the hospital and they had me change, and then we sat
After a while they came in and were getting my IV in and all that fun stuff, and I started to get nervous because Samantha was supposed to be going back in the OR with me, and she wasn't there yet. So I made Paul call her to make sure she was on her way, and a few minutes after calling her, she walked through the door. At about 6:15ish they came in and told us the anesthesiologist would be in shortly to discuss what was going to happen. He arrived a few minutes later, gave us his whole speel and then we were just waiting on the doctors. Finally at about 6:50ish they had me walk back to the OR and put in my spinal. I was so nervous I was shaking, and he kept telling me how he was going to give me these shots and they were going to hurt, then he would tell me to relax lol, because hearing that you are about to experience pain is really helpful when trying to relax. Funny part is, the shots did not hurt, him feeling my spine for the right place to put in the medicine is what hurt the worst. But that was shortly replaced with a warm floating sensation, and then it was time for Samantha to come in the room. Shortly after she came in the doctors came in, and it was go time!! There was a lot of tugging, a lot of pressure, then after what seemed like an eternity, the anesthesiologist announced that they had broken my water, and two seconds later a Screaming little ball of mucus was being lifted up over the curtain for me to see.
I instantly started bawling, HES GORGEOUS! After what seemed like another eternity they finally brought him over to me, and I kissed him and then they whisked him off for his daddy to see, and so that he could be evaluated in the nursery.
I was getting really anxious and annoyed by time they wheeled me down to Recovery, I was ready to hold this little baby that had been attacking my insides for the last nine months. I loaded up my laptop and saw that Paul had posted a picture of him alredy, I just stared and stared at it. Then I decided to make some calls to pass the time and finally at about 9 they wheeled me down to my room and brought him in.
I could not believe how CHUNKY he was. He had huge huge cheeks and a double chin, SO STINKING CUTE!! He was rooting around really bad, so I went and head and started breastfeeding him right away. He latched right on like a pro, and has already set his own little schedule of every 3 or so hours.
We are not sure yet if he has Nemaline, Its really kindof hard to tell right off the bat, because he mostly just sleeps. But he does show some signs of not having it. The latching on, having a good suck, a strong gag reflex, his pediatrician says he has really good muscle tone, and the one I notice is you have to struggle to get his legs open to change his diaper, and fighting him to put his arm down when I am trying to get him to latch on. These are all very positive signs to me. But we will know for sure within the next couple of days/weeks.
